"I believe a new generation of physician executives will be critically important in driving the healthcare agenda of the future, whether in health systems, academic medical centers, pharmaceutical and device companies, research, or in related organizations.  This residency pathway reflects Duke's commitment to providing unique training opportunities that produce tomorrow's innovative physician leaders.  We are witnessing an increasing number of medical students (and trainees) who are graduating with both an M.D. and MBA or other management degree.  As they contemplate the next phase of their careers, most are forced to choose between clinical training and the world of business - 'giving up' on the other path temporarily, sometimes permanently.  The MLP-R, by combining these two paths in a single residency experience, connects the clinical to the managerial, making one relevant to the other, synergistic."
